Outline

WEEK 1
In this lesson, you’ll create, view, and hide layers which are helpful because you can edit them nondestructively, so you don’t have to start over if you make a mistake or need to change something. Then, you’ll create, move, duplicate, lock, unlock, cut, and paste layers to alter images more quickly.

WEEK 2
You’ll discover how to crop and resize photos nondestructively using Smart Objects, and you’ll love the way they let you make a protected package out of an image. Then, you’ll see how you can make an individual layer in an image larger or smaller, rotate it, and use the amazing Warp command. And you can reverse all these changes anytime you want—if you make them on a Smart Object layer.

WEEK 3
Learn to use an Adjustment layer which makes no permanent change to the image or hurts the image’s quality no matter how many times you edit the exposure. Then, you’ll find out about layer masks, which allow you to keep every pixel of your original image while hiding the parts you no longer wish to see.

WEEK 4
Practice using nondestructive editing to restore damaged images. Then, learn to transition from total opacity to total transparency as you work with grayscale and gradient masks. You’ll also experiment with vignette edges and other edge effects, plus you’ll create a Web page header.

WEEK 5
Learn some new tricks as you explore some commands on the Masks section of the Properties panel that will allow you to change the background of an image which has a subject with wispy hair or fur. Then, learn how to put images inside of type using a clipping mask.

WEEK 6
Create luminosity masks and use them to correct images and to develop false duotone images and wonderfully creative image composites. Finally, you’ll create an image that has a different photo in each color channel. You’ll use Content-Aware Scale to make unusual adjustments to your image size. You’ll try a wonderful stained-glass framing technique. And you’ll finish the course with a fun assignment that lets you put together everything you’ve learned.
