Stress is at epidemic levels in the world today. In this certificate program, you will explore the physiological, social and psychological impacts of stress and study modalities to get stress under control. You will examine the relationship between stress and health, nutrition, and physical activity, and discover how stress can develop in the workplace. You will also learn about the different therapies that can help reduce stress, including how healthy living habits—such as exercise and diet—can help counteract the negative impact of stress.
At the end of this program, you will appreciate the importance of recognizing the impact of stress, and you will have gained knowledge of strategies and therapies to reduce and manage stress. (14 contact hours)
There are many types of stress, and each can result in many different physiological effects on the body. This lesson will provide you with and overview of the physiology of stress, the body’s responses to stress, and how stress affects the central nervous, endocrine, and immune systems. Then you will be provided with an overview of the social context of stress, describe the impact of social support on health, identify the stressful effects of incivility, discuss how lack of contact with nature affects stress levels, and learn the stressful effects of technology, social networking, and multitasking.
In this lesson you will look at why people react differently to stressors. You will learn what stress is and look at different personality types; discuss stress appraisal, coping, and emotion; identify the elements of emotional intelligence; discover gender differences in exposure to stressors; and identify strategies for reducing psychological stress.
In this lesson you will examine the relationship between stress and health. You will look at the role stress plays in the development of cancer, cardiovascular disease, diabetes drug use, depression, post-traumatic stress disorder, irritable bowel syndrome, asthma, sleep disorders, and eating disorders.
In this lesson you will learn the relationship between food and emotions. You will look at such things as: the effects of stress on nutrition and health and examining the elements of nutrition that support a healthy immune system. Then you will learn the types of physical activity, the physiological benefits of physical activity, and how various types of exercise can help manage stress and improve health and well-being.
Look at the extent of workplace stress, learn the difference between job stress and fob burnout, identify the causes of job stress, identify the physiological and health effects of workplace stress, and list ways to reduce job stress. Then you will learn about the healing aspects of journaling to reduce stress and promote health and healing. You will also learn guidelines and tips for successful journal writing.
Finally, learn many ways to manage and reduce stress by using stress-relieving techniques and therapies. These techniques and therapies include self-awareness, cognitive restructuring, sound healing and music therapy, meditation, nature, imagery, biofeedback, art and dance.
WHEN CAN I GET STARTED?
A new session of each course opens each month, allowing you to enroll whenever your busy schedule permits!
HOW DOES IT WORK?
Once a session starts, two lessons will be released each week, for the six-week duration of your course. You will have access to all previously released lessons until the course ends.
HOW LONG DO I HAVE TO COMPLETE EACH LESSON?
The interactive discussion area for each lesson automatically closes 2 weeks after each lesson is released, so you’re encouraged to complete each lesson within two weeks of its release.
WHAT IF I NEED AN EXTENSION?
The Final Exam will be released on the same day as the last lesson. Once the Final Exam has been released, you will have 2 weeks plus 10 days to complete the Final and finish any remaining lessons in your course. No further extensions can be provided beyond these 10 days.
WHEN WILL I RECEIVE MY CERTIFICATE?
You must complete all lessons to receive your certificate. You must pass the final exam in all lessons with a score of 80% or higher AND complete the Evaluation Form in order to receive your Certificate of Completion. Finals are graded as Pass or No Pass. Receipt of your certificate indicates successful completion of the course and that you have passed all final exams with a score of 80% or greater. You may retake final exams as many times as necessary within the duration of the course at no additional charge.
WILL I BE AWARDED CONTINUE EDUCATION HOURS FOR THIS COURSE?
Yes, ALLEGRA Learning Solutions courses are acceptable for CE contact hours in all states, however all healthcare providers are responsible for checking the “Accreditation” list to determine if this course awards contact hours for their profession.
