Outline

WEEK 1
The goal of this course is for the learner to describe design elements that support healing environments, including evidence-based design (EBD), “green” practices, sustainability, physical security, cultural responsiveness, building design, furnishings, and wayfinding in health-care facilities.

WEEK 2
A healing relationship involves two major elements: a relationship with the self (intrapersonal relationship) and relationships with others (interpersonal relationships). The goal of this course is for the learner to describe the elements of intrapersonal and interpersonal relationships that support healing, examine components of the C.A.R.I.N.G. model of self-care, explore the role of balance and thriving in healing relationships, describe the dimensions and characteristics of a healing presence, and explore the principles of relationship-centered care (RCC).

WEEK 3
Describe the history of color and healing; examine the characteristics of color; and describe the healing benefits and impact of color, types of color therapy, and guidelines for using color in healing environments. Then examine the characteristics of light, compare and contrast the types of light, discuss the role of light in sight and our overall health, and describe how to incorporate light into healing environments.

WEEK 4
Discuss the role of art and music in health, discuss the effects of art and art therapy on health, and describe how music and art can be incorporated effectively into healing environments. Then learn the effects of nature and health and well-being.

WEEK 5
Understand the components of external and indoor air pollution, describe their effects on human health, and identify methods of reducing or eliminating external and indoor air pollution, especially in health-care environments. Then describe the scope of the issue of water safety, types of contaminants found in public drinking water, water-related diseases, guidelines for water safety, and the information health-care providers need to know to effectively educate the public about their water and their health.

WEEK 6
Finally, you’ll learn to describe the use of technology in modern life, define technostress and technosis, identify health impacts of technology, and describe methods of managing technostress.

WHEN CAN I GET STARTED?
A new session of each course opens each month, allowing you to enroll whenever your busy schedule permits!

HOW DOES IT WORK?
Once a session starts, two lessons will be released each week, for the six-week duration of your course. You will have access to all previously released lessons until the course ends.

HOW LONG DO I HAVE TO COMPLETE EACH LESSON?
The interactive discussion area for each lesson automatically closes 2 weeks after each lesson is released, so you’re encouraged to complete each lesson within two weeks of its release.

WHAT IF I NEED AN EXTENSION?
The Final Exam will be released on the same day as the last lesson. Once the Final Exam has been released, you will have 2 weeks plus 10 days to complete the Final and finish any remaining lessons in your course. No further extensions can be provided beyond these 10 days.

WHEN WILL I RECEIVE MY CERTIFICATE?
You must complete all lessons to receive your certificate. You must pass the final exam in all lessons with a score of 80% or higher AND complete the Evaluation Form in order to receive your Certificate of Completion. Finals are graded as Pass or No Pass. Receipt of your certificate indicates successful completion of the course and that you have passed all final exams with a score of 80% or greater. You may retake final exams as many times as necessary within the duration of the course at no additional charge.

WILL I BE AWARDED CONTINUE EDUCATION HOURS FOR THIS COURSE?
Yes, ALLEGRA Learning Solutions courses are acceptable for CE contact hours in all states, however all healthcare providers are responsible for checking the “Accreditation” list to determine if this course awards contact hours for their profession.
